Recipe Idea: The Double Cheese Burger
As promised, I decided to try out a few homemade recipes for my upcoming books. This is a recipe I'll likely feature in book 2. I couldn't resist making these today, and I'll admit I spent longer than necessary on it.
Also, I've probably gained weight from this little experiment, but what the heck. Worth it.
Now, unfortunately my burger patties shrank a bit during the cooking process - I realized later on that I'd made too many patties with the amount of meat I'd purchased. So, I adjusted the recipe below accordingly.
So here it is!
The Double Cheese Burger Recipe - Right Outta Jarvis' Kitchen
For the Burger Patty:
3 pounds minced beef
¼ cup bread crumbs (some extra in case the mixture is too wet)
½ teaspoon salt
For the Fried Onions:
½ Stick of Butter (Salted is fine)
½ large brown onion (sliced into half-moons)
1 teaspoon crushed garlic
Salt to taste (may not be required)
For the Rest:
4 soft sesame seed buns
Butter for spreading
10 cherry tomatoes sliced
8 slices of Cheddar or Mozzarella cheese
4 sliced pickles (large)
Ketchup and mustard!
Get your minced beef into a large bowl, then add the salt and pepper.
Crack your egg into the mixture, then combine the bread crumbs and mix with a wooden spoon. Check if your mixture is too wet and add more crumbs if necessary.
Split the meat mixture into eight even portions (they can be quite large, as they shrink after I found out). Roll into balls, flatten and place on a greased tray to one side.
Place a saucepan on the stove top, heat it up, then add the butter, garlic and chopped onion. Sweat the onions and add salt to taste. Cook until soft and glistening, but not sloppy.
Place a skillet (non-stick pan will work too) on another stove plate and heat until hot.
Splash in the oil.
Grill your eight burger patties in batches if necessary. Leave uncovered and flip after two to three minutes, depending on how well you like them done.
Prepare all your other ingredients while your burgers are cooking.
Cut and butter your sesame buns. Assemble your burgers by placing your pickles first. Once your patties are done and off the heat, place the first burger on top of the gherkin. Layer on a slice of cheese.
Place the second burger patty, layer on another slice of cheese. Top with the cherry tomatoes, then the cooked onion.
Add a liberal squirt of mustard and ketchup.
Let me know what you think!
